I never knew that my family had a beach house! Growing up we only ever went to the beach once or twice a year.
We certainly never stayed overnight. It wasn’t until I started looking for an apartment near college that my mom suggested that maybe I could live in the beach house. That is when I found out that we had a beach house ever since my aunt passed away. Apparently she left it to my mom over 20 years ago. I was super excited because I love the beach and the beach house is only 10 miles from my university. I drove down to check it out. Needless to say, the beach house requires a lot of work. It has been all but abandoned for over 20 years. It needs a new roof, some window repair, and it needs a brand new HVAC system. My mom said that if I fix up the old beach house that she will sign it over to me. Yes, that is going to cost me quite a bit of money but Mom is willing to loan the money to me. I was hesitant to take out another loan when I am already going to need to get a loan to go to college. However I would have had to pay rent anyway so I might as well put my money towards a house I can actually keep. I got the roof and windows fixed up first. Then I hired an HVAC company to come out and completely replace the HVAC system. They asked me what I wanted and I had absolutely no idea. Thankfully the HVAC technicians were very helpful in helping me pick out an HVAC system with a high SEER rating for my beach house.
