I haven’t seen my sister in over 2 years but we keep in touch.
She lives in the deep south and I live just over the Mason-Dixon line.
We joke about that a lot. Well last month she called me and asked if she could stay with me for a little while. She said a category 4 hurricane was headed her way and expected to make landfall close to her neighborhood. I said “yes” without a second thought. Then my sister told me that, of course, she would be taking her pets with her. That gave me some pause. Of course I would take my pets if I was going to evacuate a major storm too but my sister keeps snakes and lizards as pets. Despite myself I said, “no problem”. A few days later my sister arrived with 3 snakes and 2 rather large lizards. The pets were all in storage totes because she didn’t have a way to move all of their tanks and heat lights. So that meant that the reptiles all needed some heat source so they would stay healthy. I already have the central furnace on in the house but the reptiles need a lot more heat than us warm blooded people do. Thankfully my sister brought a space heater with her. We ended up setting the reptiles up in the laundry room and plugging in the space heater. The space heater has a thermostat so my sister just set it to about 90 degrees and the snakes and lizards stayed pretty comfortable. I wasn’t too comfortable when I had to do laundry though. Not only was it hot but I didn’t like being around my sister’s pets.
