My spouse and I moved to the South last Spring, and at first, the weather was nice… My buddy and I only ran the heater or cooler a few times a afternoon, then both of us work so we would leave the Heating & Air Conditioning system off during the afternoon while we were away.
But, as July approached, the weather heated up and it has started getting way too tepid in the household when we leave the air conditioning off, and i always get household first so I am the one who would have to turn on the air conditioning system and wait for it to cool down.
By the time he gets home, the household is halfway cooled down. He thinks we are saving energy and money by leaving the air conditioning system off for our work afternoon. I feel that the air conditioning system has to work way too hard when it is turned back on and that we should just turn it to about 72 degrees when we go away instead of turning it off completely; Now that it is warmer, we regularly debate about what is better. I have a giant project at my work next week so Bob will be the one getting household first. I know he will change his tune when he is the one to walk into the un-air conditioned household and when he has to wait for the cooling to start working and he hears how hard it has to work. I won’t say “I told you so” either. I’ll just smile and know we will be leaving the air conditioning system on next time we both leave the house.
