Dog Blocking Heater Vent

Dog Blocking Heater Vent

This winter, I noticed that my furnace was not working as well as it used to.

It worked great in every room except for the kitchen.

Sometimes it would be fine in the kitchen, but other days, it would be freezing. Despite the fact that I could hear the heater running, no hot air seemed to be getting through the kitchen vent. To start with, there is only one vent in my tiny little kitchen. That vent is under the table and I worried that perhaps food or other debris had gotten into it and clogged it up. I called out a HVAC company and they sent out a technician. He walked around the house and then looked under the table. My basset hound, Flash, was laying under there; all lazy and sleeping. I told him Flash wouldn’t hurt him. The technician asked if Flash usually slept under the table. I informed him that she does. He laughed and said there was nothing wrong with my vents other than the fact that my dog was laying over them and blocking them. I had to laugh too, it made so much sense that I wondered why I hadn’t thought of it sooner. The next day, I went to the pet store and got Flash a heated dog bed and put it under the table but not over the vent. The ungrateful dog still sleeps over my vent though. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to get a space heater for the kitchen, either that, or freeze.
