Firewood shortage left them in the cold.

My neighbor was outside the other day and so I walked over to chat.

We don’t see each other often due to our hectic schedules so it is nice to catch up every once in a while.

I love hearing about her kids and all the things they are up to. Her daughter is in the middle of planning a wedding and life is very exciting for them. When We sat down to have a glass of tea she seemed really distracted. I asked her if anything was wrong and she told me that she was worried about this coming winter. It was only August so I thought it was a little early to start thinking of the snow and ice we would be having. I tried saying to her to just enjoy the rest of Summer but she told me that she didn’t know how they were going to heat their house. I asked if there was a problem with the HVAC system because I have a great company that I work with, but, she said that they were having a really hard time finding firewood that they could afford. It seems that the prices have gone up over 25% since last year and the delivery fee doubled from the person they always had bring it before. I asked her how much she actually saved by burning wood and she said that until recently, they saved almost half on their monthly expenses. Their HVAC system was only used as a backup and the cost of the wood made heating much more reasonable. Now, they were going to have to reconsider having the HVAC system upgraded to a more efficient on so that they would use less wood.
