The main culprits of HVAC problems

Common HVAC problems assail HVAC owners more often than strange or unforeseeable problems.

Instead of jumping to conclusions as a heating and air conditioning system owner, one should go through a simple checklist of common and basic problems first before assuming that something more serious is the matter. The very first thing one should check when they find that their HVAC system is not working properly is the air filter. When was the last time that you changed your air filter? It behooves an HVAC owner to check the air filter once every month. If you’re not entirely sure if your air filter is too dirty to continue to function properly, then hold it up to the light. If light cannot pass through it, it is pretty much time to replace it. If you have determined that the air filter is not the problem, then check next to see if the refrigerant level is too low. HVAC refrigerant is responsible for absorbing heat from the outside air in the winter in order to warm your home. It also gives off heat in the summer to cool down your home. If your air conditioner does not seem to be cooling your house very well and yet your energy bills continue to rise, there is a very real possibility that low refrigerant levels are to blame. Perhaps the simplest problem that an HVAC system can have is that the “brains of the operation”, so to speak, simply isn’t working correctly. Make sure that your thermostat has fresh batteries and is properly communicating with your HVAC system. Without the thermostat, after all, your HVAC system can be perfectly healthy and yet give you nothing in the way of heat or air!
