I did end up going with a wood stove as our main source of heat in our new home.
Ever since I was just a little girl, I dreamed of designing and building my own home. I do not know why it appealed to me so much to build my own house, but it did. My mom used to encourage me to sketch out what I wanted my house to look like. Although it has changed in many ways throughout the years, the one thing that I have always wanted in my home was a wood stove. The idea of having a wood stove came from my friend, Sarah. Her family had a wood burning stove as their main source of heat, and I used to love going over to their house just to smell the wood burning stove. It filled the house with an amazing fragrance. I am so thankful that I married a man that had the same dreams of building a house that I had. We started building a year before we were married, and the house was just completed a few months ago. We came across quite a few obstacles along the way, but it was worth it in the end. I do not know if I would ever do it again or if I would even recommend to someone else to build their own house, but I am glad that we did. I knew chopping wood would be a lot of work, but in the end, we decided to go for it. My husband said that he actually enjoys chopping wood, so hopefully all will go well.
