Packing for a trip to a cold place

In the region where I live, the weather does not get cold enough for there to be snow. However, this Fall, I am planning a trip with some friends to a region where it is going to be very cold in the Fall. Sometimes, I do not like to be cold and enjoy turning the AC off even in the summer months. Being from a warm climate, we use the AC year round. Something I have learned about packing for a trip to a climate you are not familiar with is to always do your research. Look up the average temperatures in the region that you are traveling to and make sure that you pack accordingly. One thing to make sure of is that you pack the proper footwear. There is nothing worse than being in a cold region without the proper footwear. Last year, my friends and I went on a trip where we had to hike up several hills to get to our hotel. Once we arrived at the hotel, we realized that we were wildly underprepared. The hotel did not have any heating or cooling systems and we were forced to go out and buy new clothes, hiking boots, and blankets. We decided half way through the trip to relocate to a facility with central heating. This is an example of not doing enough research before heading out on a trip to an unfamiliar place. Sometimes, it is necessary to pay for money for a place with proper heating and cooling. Comfort is an important part of a good vacation!
